Essential Question**:**

How to help adults be better at working out in their homes

Challenge**:**

Help adults be better at working out in their homes

General Synthesis**:**

Our general research has led us to discover that the "pregnant women" demographic as it is proven to be in need of attention, workout-wise. We see that in fact there happen to be misconceptions regarding the workout situation around pregnant women and its pros and cons. These misconceptions stem from the lack of information and are proven to yield unwanted results such as miscarriages, vaginal bleeding, womb contraction, reduced fetal movement where in fact Women with uncomplicated pregnancies (certain conditions) should be encouraged to engage in aerobic and strength-conditioning exercises before, during, and after pregnancy. The stance (from [ACOG] American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) is that exercise in pregnancy has few risks and has been shown to benefit most women (with few exceptions) if the exercise is conducted in a proper manner that adheres to existing guidelines. These often overlooked misconceptions prevent pregnant woman from having the innate desire to have a 'healthy' lifestyle whilst being pregnant at the same time. From our current research, the benefits of a healthier lifestyle (through proper workout sessions intended for pregnant woman) is a more rewarding experience that outweigh its cons. Therefore, we proposed a deeper research into a guideline that shows how to properly conduct a workout that is curated for the "pregnant woman" demographic as a viable option to pursue.

Refined Challenge**:**

Help pregnant woman to properly exercise in a safe manner

Domain Synthesis**:**

Helping pregnant woman to exercise in a safe manner can be broken down into 3 main acts. The act of providing suitable workout guidelines before, during, and after pregnancy. As our research and interviews had suggested, the "pregnant woman" demographic is indeed in need of proper “Medical attention”, especially relating to their last trimester pregnancy phase. Our research led us to believe that a crucial role that is not yet fulfilled is ‘helping’ the pregnant woman demographic by “Facilitating normal deliveries” for their babies whom aren’t subject to a C-section. Thus, our focus would be on providing a solution for pregnant woman who wants to have a higher chance of a ‘successful’ normal delivery of their babies through a “Last Trimester” workout programme tailored just for them.

The Pregnant women (or their partner) we interviewed provided insights into their “pain points” in the form of; (1) laziness, (2) fatigue from daily activities, (3) unwanted bodily responses such as nausea, vomiting, headaches, and muscle strain. These women also conducted their own exercise methodology initiatives such as; (1) 30-minute walks with 4X-7X frequency, (2) Cycling, (3) Yoga, (4) and Swimming. They also believed (from doctor consultations) that starting out in their first or second trimester is the ‘recommended’ and that exercising in the last trimester can yield great ‘baby deliver’ results. They are also informed regarding benefits such as; (1) C-section avoidance and (2) Obesity and Diabetes prevention.

We then interviewed “medical professionals” as to widen our viewpoint. They mainly provided insights in the realm of the proper exercises that are specifically intended for pregnant woman. These trained practitioners provide us recommendations such as; (1) Exercises with the likes of swimming, cycling, yoga, aerobics, and other forms of light to medium intensity workouts that does not place excessive strain on the already pressured joints. (2) The “recommended” workout duration and intensity of; (1) 150 minutes /week, (2) 30 minutes /day → 5 days, (3)Beginner: 15-15 minutes.

From our extensive research so far, we are only able to formulate the basic foundations of our app. The app is an embodiment of a fitness app that caters specifically to the “Pregnant woman” demographic whom are in the last trimester phase of their pregnancy. We see such an app as a viable solution upon facilitating towards the notion of a ‘successful’ normal baby delivery that pregnant woman with uncomplicated pregnancy crave for by being an intuitive and reliable, go-to solution for last-trimester pregnant woman in need of easily accessible and visually stimulating ‘pregnancy’ workout simulations and guidelines.

Solution Concept**:**

Create an Application that provide video-based workout learning sessions that is curated for pregnant woman that are in the last (third) trimester of their pregnancy phase. The app is intended for facilitating a "safer" workout session for these pregnant moms with the end goal of achieving a smoother normal baby delivery process.
